2013 Rockies given little chance by Vegas oddsmakers, Baseball Prospectus

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. ? I?m not a betting man.

Well, OK, I participate in an NFL pick ?em pool, but that doesn?t really count. I know little about point spreads, odds, etc. I simply don?t pay a lot of attention to it.

But I figured I needed a reality check regarding the 2013 Rockies.

Not that I honestly think the Rockies have any chance to be a contender this season, but during the early days of spring training, it?s easy to be swayed by the sunshine, green grass and players? unabashed optimism.

So I poked around to see what the outsiders and oddsmakers are predicting for the 2013 Rockies. What I found, is, to be kind, sobering. Baseball Prospectus ? an organization that knows its stuff ? has the Rockies finishing 72-90, last in the National League West. Only the Marlins (66-96) are projected to have a worst record in the NL.

Over in the American League, the Astros are predicted to finish 63-99 (though I could seen them being much, much worse). The Twins? record is predicted to be a woeful 66-90.

The guys in Vegas don?t think much of the Rockies? chances either. The odds of the Rockies winning the World Series is somewhere between 100-1 and 150-1. The odds of them winning the NL pennant? 70-1.

So there?s my reality check. But at least the grass is still green and the sun is shining.
