For almost thirty years, OMB Watch, a nonprofit research and advocacy organization, has been working to build an open, accountable government that invests in the common good, protects people and the environment, and advances national priorities defined by an active, informed citizenry.
OMB Watch is seeking an energetic, skilled professional to help develop and implement an online communications strategy for this national public policy organization in Washington, DC. We seek an individual with experience in online communications and social media campaigns; excellent web writing skills to create concise, compelling content; and an eye toward visual media, including photos, graphics, and video. The Online Communications Manager will work collaboratively with staff from across the organization and report to the Communications Director.
Responsibilities include:
- Helping to design and update the content on the organization?s family of websites
- Working collaboratively with staff to write, edit, and post online content (including blog posts)
- Maintaining OMB Watch's main website on a day-to-day basis
- Helping staff translate sometimes complex policy knowledge into clear, concise language and visuals that a range of audiences can understand and connect with
- Drafting and assisting with the distribution of action alerts, announcements, fundraising appeals, and other communications to OMB Watch's e-mail list members
- Assisting with editing, fact-checking, and distributing the organization's online newsletter
- Drafting and producing the organization's all-digital annual report
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
A minimum of a Bachelor's degree, preferably in communications and/or marketing, and two years of relevant work experience. Experience writing and managing content on websites, blogs, and social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and Tumblr. Experience using social media to reach and engage with a variety of audiences. Impeccable communication and writing skills, including the ability to produce concise, persuasive content that effectively communicates our messages. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, handle multiple tasks, respond effectively to unexpected challenges, and work both independently and collaboratively. Experience working with members of the media strongly preferred.
Salary & Benefits
Starting salary is $32,250, but may be higher commensurate with relevant experience. OMB Watch?s competitive benefits package includes health care and dental coverage, paid vacation and sick leave, a retirement plan, and Metro SmartBenefits.
